Works-for-Me-Wednesday

If you've ever had to get up in the middle of the night to change the sheets on the bed of a child who's had an accident, you know that it's not the highlight of parenthood. I have a little trick that will save you a little time and maybe you won't even have to get fully awake. I "double up" on the sheets. It goes like this...mattress, waterproof mattress cover (obviously, waterproof is key here), fitted sheet, then another waterproof mattress cover, and another fitted sheet. Then when the unfortunate accident occurs, you just take off the top layer, clean up the kid, and everyone goes back to bed.

It works for me! And for more great tips and ideas, head on over to Works-for-Me-Wednesday at

  1. Great Tip! Thanks! I forgot to get more pull-ups, and we had one of those nights last night. I'll remember this tip!

  2. Thanks for your comment on my WFMW post. :) And don't you just LOVE wet nights like those? The Tongginator is a deep, deep sleeper, so I suspect she'll be in pull-ups til she's in elementary school. We'll be sure to use this method when we finally transition completely. They rarely tell you that day training and night training happen at different ages for some children. LOL.

  3. My son just wet the bed the other night for the first time in years. I was so mad that I had pulled off the mattress protector....I feel like leaving it on for life! Thanks for the tip!

  4. Brilliance! I mentioned it to my mom and how smart this was and she smiled, "Well, that's what I did with you."

Maybe the brilliance skipped a generation?

  5. Oh how I wish I had this idea years ago - my son is still a frequent bed wetter and the last thing I want to do at 3 a.m. is change the sheets. Thanks for sharing this tip!

  6. We're lazy, we just throw a towel down and change the sheets in the morning. :P Luckily my son seems to be getting past this phase now.

  7. Luckily, we haven't had to change the sheets entirely yet -- our son sleeps in a queen-sized bed, so we usually just move his pillow and such over to the other side for the rest of the night!! :0) I'll keep this idea in mind, though, esp. if my daughter has issues w/ this, too (she'll be in a daybed)!

  9. Great tip!! I don't think my mattress cover is waterproof, that would be a good first step, huh?

  10. BTDT. Yeah, it's a royal pain.

We used an old shower curtain directly on top of the mattress THEN did a waterproof mattress cover...'cause it wasn't totally waterproof.

I like the layers tip a lot!
