No, not the hippy Broadway show.
Frugality has now found its way into our hair regimens. Burge has been threatening to cut his own hair with his beard trimmer for several years now. As you may know, he's thinning a little on top (cough, cough...), and he just thought it was ridiculous to pay $12 to have the edges of his hair cut. Add to that, the lady who usually cuts it rarely gets it as short as he would like it. I resisted, namely because I knew my OCD would not allow me to stay a bystander in the situation. And then, once I got involved in the haircutting process, what if I screwed it up?
So, anyway, I gave in, and we bought a hair trimmer kit. $20 at Wal-Mart...less than the cost of 2 haircuts. I really overanalyzed the difficulty of home haircutting. For a man, anyway ( I will NOT be cutting my hair with the hair trimmer kit.). You just pop the guard on and whip right through it. Took less than 15 minutes. And looks just as good as the $12 one, I might add. We had one scary moment trying to figure out how to use the angled guard to contour around the ears, but we got through it. I so wish I had before and after pictures so you could see our handiwork. Alas, we do not, so you'll just have to imagine.
And in case you're wondering, I did have to get involved. It was hard for him to do the back, so I jumped in and volunteered my expertise (Ha! Ha!).
And lest you think Burge is the only one making sacrifices in the hair department, I will be going back to doing my own color. As soon as I get up the nerve...I used to do my own color when we first married, but for the past 6 years or so, I've gone to a salon. I'm more than a little apprehensive about it, but hey, what's the worst that could happen? On second thought, don't answer that...
