Nursery duty...AKA Hell

Burge and I had surprise nursery duty this morning at church. It was a surprise because we didn't know we had it until the middle of Sunday School. We both decided we like the surprise attack. That way we didn't dread it all weekend. Yes, we are that couple that look at nursery duty as a chore rather than a chance to serve. If it's any consolation, we had plenty of chances to exult today. The only thing I didn't like about not knowing we had it was that I couldn't prepare any activities. Again, yes, I am that person. The one who prepares a lesson for nursery duty. You know, idle hands are the devil's workshop. And, boy, were they today!

There is nothing like being in a confined (very confined!) space with nine 2, 3 and 4 year olds that really make you want to go home to your own kids. And take a nap. And a Valium. And maybe a hard drink. (Just kidding on those last two! Okay, okay, maybe not the Valium). Seriously though, what makes otherwise well behaved kids go nuts at church? Because I know their parents don't let them run around on top of the tables at home. Do they? Maybe they could smell our fear. Who knows? All I know is it makes me long for the bedbabies class. I'll take crying over mutiny any day.
