The Attention Span of a 4-year-old

Yesterday as Abby and I were doing preschool, our Bible story was about how God and Jesus were the same. I know, can you pick a more confusing concept to teach a four year old? Anyhoo, I was explaining how Jesus lived with God, and God let Him come to earth as a baby, and then He grew up and died on the cross and was resurrected 3 days later, and then He went back to live with God. Well, Abby was sitting at her little desk absorbing it all. She looked up at me and said, "Mommy, I'm glad God let Jesus come to earth for a little while."

My heart swelled with pride and tears sprung to my eyes as I thought to myself, "She gets it!" Certainly I have the smartest, most spiritually gifted preschooler in the world! My mind shot ahead as I pictured her as the next Kay Arthur or perhaps winning a Noble prize. She's brilliant to be able to grasp such a deep spiritual matter so quickly!

Then I heard her gasp. What profoundly deep thought would come from her mouth next? I looked at her with such pride. And she said, "Look, Mommy! A puppy!" as she stared out the window.

Yeah, moment over. Perhaps she's not as spiritually deep as I thought. Oh, well. There's always tomorrow.
