American Idol, Top 36, Round 2

This could be dubbed "The Round Full of People I Wanted to Like, but Just Couldn't Quite Make Myself". To be honest, the only one I really truly liked was 16 year old Allison Iraheta. She rocked Heart's "Alone". And really, you shouldn't attempt Heart unless you can rock it, as oh-so-many contestants in the past have learned.

On the list of those who I wanted to like, but just couldn't quite make myself:

Jasmine Murray was one of the few contestants that I remembered from auditions. But, seriously, some songs don't lend themselves to an R&B flair, and it's safe to say Sara Bareille's "Love Song" is one of them. Moving on...

I really do like Matt Giraud. He's got a great voice, and a good personality. I mean, he's a dueling pianist, you have to have personality to pull that off, no? His rendition of "Viva La Vida" was comparable to Michael Buble singing Chris Martin. IT DID NOT WORK. Hate it for him...

Nick Mitchell. There are no words...

I want to like Matt Breitzke, really I do. But every time he sings, I feel embarrassed, uncomfortable, awkward. Pretty much any adjective that you can use to describe a bad first date, that's how I feel. Seriously, my stomach is starting to hurt just typing this. And I love me some Tonic, ever since they played my sophomore homecoming at Jax State 12 (!) years ago. (Have I seriously been out of college for 10 years??? Say it ain't so!) But he sounded like a really bad lounge act. It hurt (and still does).

Adam Lambert has the potential to be the next Freddie Mercury. I realize that has both good and bad connotations, and I mean them all. He has an amazingly powerful voice and range, but he freaks me out just a little. It may be the goth look or the fact that he sounds like a girl a lot of the time. Yeah, I think that may be it. It's slightly unnatural the way he can effortlessly hit those high notes. Again, for some reason, it makes my stomach hurt a bit to think about it.

Anyway, I'm betting Allison and Adam are a lock for the top guy and girl. I'm more unsure about the 3rd spot. Who do you think? Now I'm off to swig some Mylanta and try not to think about it anymore.

  1. Pretty much spot on. Seems like the really good ones are standing out and the others are just there as filler.

  2. I agree that Allison and Adam are probably the top 2 this week. But the third??? It will be interesting to find out... :)

Tell me what you think...go on, I can take it!
