Cartoons of Yesteryear

First, let me say that I have not gone back on my new year's resolution to turn off the TV. And second, yes, we finally got our TV back! Woot-woot!

Anyway, I do let the kids watch cartoons when they get up from nap while they are eating snack. Has children's programming always been this weird or is a new phenomenon? Seriously Yo Gabba Gabba is way farther out there than H.R. Pufnstuf, and we all know where that one was coming from. If not, ask Michael Phelps. Ahem.

And, of course, that is one of the few shows that will hold Grayson's attention. He likes Elmo, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Yo Gabba Gabba. Abby's favorite, at the moment, is Imagination Movers. And well, that's a little strange too. Really, how many guys grow up thinking the coolest job in the world is singing lame children's songs and talking to a mouse puppet? Seriously. Not making any accusations, just worries me a little is all I'm saying...

What happened to good old cartoons that had no educational value whatsoever? Like the Flintstones, the Jetsons, the Smurfs. The Smurfs, people. Fat Albert, anyone? And I don't mean the live action garbage that came out a few years ago. Looney Tunes? Tom & Jerry? Those were quality cartoons that didn't freak me out in the least bit.

I miss the good old days...
